Not so much HEAT this series with our three league champions. Miami Heat lost to the San Antonio Spurs in the 2014 NBA Finals with a shocking 104-87 in Game 5 on Sunday. With the Spurs winning the seven game series with an exaggerated 4-1, it left former champions to be eliminated.
On Sunday when facing elimination, like regular routine Lebron James gathered his fellow teammates to explain how they must follow his lead. Dwayne Wade hadn’t done so, instead leading his team to a painful end of their season. With Wade’s performance being very dull with no minor setbacks from injuries, in Game 4 he missed 9/10 of his first shots & finished 3/13 from the field for 10 points in a 21 point loss with San Antonio. Now this poor performance could explain Wade finishing with just 11 points on 4/12 shootings and 3 turnovers in 36 minutes in the final game before being eliminated.
“I just struggled a little bit. As I told you guys, I’m never going to point at anything physically. I felt fine. I just struggled a little bit offensively. You know, I wish I could have done more, but it’s the nature of the game. So it’s nothing physically at all. ” — Dwayne Wade
Wade gave all due respect to the way the Spurs lead him off his rhythm & dominated the series. The Spurs felt no intimidation though, because Wade only shot from the court less than 45% of the time and averaged 15.2 points, 2.6 assists and 3.8 rebounds in the series. We could give Wade some credit though, as we look back at last years series on how he assisted Lebron with the torching of Indiana Pacers.
Lebron’s remarkable performance still left the Spurs shocked but not quite enough knowing his teammates weren’t such a threat. Lebron still held it down pushing through with 31 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Entering Game 5, Lebron averaged nearly 28 points and shooting 60% of the time from the field and 61% from 3 point range.
“It’s hard to say anything. Everyone is going through their own emotions right now, everyone deals with it differently. I keep my head high. I understand the position I’ve been able to put myself and this team in since I got here, so my head stays high. And I’m going to stay positive and use this as another opportunity to get better next year. But everyone is different.” Said Lebron James when responding on how he felt with his teammates & an overwhelming loss to the Spurs.
Well let’s hope so .. Until next year Miami!!
