With Fox’s hit series Empire finishing its first season last week, the program is back in the news this time in a legal battle. The lawsuit is between Twentieth Century Fox and Empire Distributions for trademark infringement over the name of the program. Empire Distributions claims that “FOX’s Empire television program has created significant confusion with EMPIRE’s products and services. Customers, artists and business partners have all expressed confusion to my employees, artists, and me as to whether the Empire program has any affiliation or business relationship with EMPIRE. It does not”. Twentieth Century Fox has responded with a lawsuit of their own against the distribution company claiming that there is no violation of trademark rights. It is reported that the case will be going to mediation.
