July 10th RBC Bluesfest 2015 Coverage
Day 3 of RBC Bluesfest 2015 was a day that many festival goers have been anticipating since the release of this years line-up. With crowd pleasers such as, Marianna’s Trench, The SoulJazz Orchestra, Chance the Rapper and of course headliner music mogul Kanye West, there is no doubt why people poured in by the thousands. The evening began with enthusiasm of festival go-ers eagerly looking for some musical satisfaction and they were not dissapointed.
When Chance the Rapper opened up the Bell stage at 7PM excitement filled the grounds and everyone went wild. The teenage filled crowd have clearly had Chances’ lyrical repertoire memorized as they sang along to every song performed, especially too hit songs like “Cocoa Butter Kisses” (ft. Vic Mensa & Twista) off of his mixtape Acidrap and from his newest album Surf he performed “Sunday Candy”. Chances’ vibrant and hyped performance was felt by each person and created an highly energetic atmosphere, a perfect preparation for the act that followed.
By the end of Chances’ set, the crowd grew to what seemed to be one of, if not, the biggest act Bluesfest has seen to date. But that is no surprise, what else would you expect when one of today’s top Hip Hop artists graces the Bluesfest stage. The sea of fans crazy to see their idol quickly converted the grounds into the largest mosh pitt that continued through the night until the end of the nights festivities. Security and festival volunteers ensured everyone remained cool by spraying the crowd and distributing continuous supply of water.
After a 20 minute fashionably late start, headliner and crowd favorite Kanye West stepped on the stage to cheers and chanting from his star struck fans. West did not disappoint one bit, he exceeded the crowds expectations by holding nothing back and putting on a show that will be hard to top.
He did take a moment to thank fans but in true Kanye style, he was open about what he thought about his haters and reminded everyone so powerfully as declared “There is only one Kanye West”. He hyped the crowd by running through fan favorite tracks like “Stronger”, “Heartless” and “Clique” which had everyone signing so loud that the crowd could clearly be heard throughout Ottawa’s Downtown core. This night is one that will go down in Ottawa festival history, that’s for sure!!
