Day 1 of this years 2015 RBC Bluesfest kicked off on July 8th with the festival opening its doors early to all the concert fans. With its inspiration from the long Canadian train journeys taken in the 1960’s by hippie superstars the Greatful Dead and Janis Joplin, the Fullflex Express began its own cross country journey with a pounding bass groove, an energy only a large size can of your favorite energy drink and the opening night of the 2015 edition of Bluesfest.
By the time headliners Jack Ü took the stage after the summer sun set, the crowd of Ottawa teenagers and young adults were still pumped after a full afternoon of EDM artists Kiesza, Hundred Waters and Tycho.
Around 7:30 p.m., rapper A$AP Ferg took to the stage to perform tracks from his album Trap Lord and Ferg Forever mixtape. Joined by A$AP mob collaborator, Marty Baller, Ferg fueled the dance fire with such hits as “Work”, “Shabba”and “Murda”Something.”
By the time Zeds Dead graced the stage, Bluesfest security began passing out water and spraying the grateful audience to ensure their safety while they soldiered on through the hypnotic beats of the Toronto duo.
But the party didn’t stop there. Featuring internationally renowned Skrillex (enjoying his third appearance at Bluesfest) and Diplo (Jack Ü), came out with a tour of force. Including onstage appearances by Kiesza and singles “Take U There” and “Where Are U Now Song Lyrics,” the DJs didn’t stand still for a moment and kept the audience engaged and dancing throughout the night.
